This module will give you an overview of the purpose and value of business planning, and provide more detail about the Our Farm, Our Plan program. 

Once you’ve completed the activities in this module, you’ll be able to: 

• Express the benefits of purposeful, long-term farm business planning 
  

• Describe Our Farm, Our Plan’s “Now Where, How, Review” Planning Cycle 
  

• Describe levels of decision making (operational, tactical, strategic) and OFOP focus on strategic (long term) planning 
  

• Express what you want to get out of this course 

Before beginning, let’s focus on your farm business for a moment.  Talk through the questions below with your farm business partner. 

Give a brief overview of your farm: 

• Where is it? 
  

• Who do you run the farm business with – who has a stake in it?  
  

• Why do you run a dairy farm? 
  

• Are you happy with the progress of your business and is it meeting your personal goals?  
  

• Are there areas in which your business could improve?  
  

• Why are you taking part in the Our Farm Our Plan program?  
  

• Are you hoping to get anything specific out of it? If so, what?
